the M2 and M2A1 Half-track

The M2 half-track

The M2 Half-track:

It is as early as 1939, the army wants to build a vehicle capable of fire the guns and transport equipment. Several prototypes were then proposed, including the T14, who was chosen to be produced en masse in 1940. Between this date and 1943, are not less than 11415 copies who released the American production lines.

The armour of the vehicle was 6.4 mm for all sides, except the armoured branch of the windshield which was 13 mm thick. The front of the vehicle is 2 seats, plus one just behind. The first two are for the driver and aid, that of the Fund for the Commander of the vehicle. There was no glass as seen in the photo, but just two small resealable slots.

The Half-track, M2A1:

This new model was please to improve protection against all attacks. It was therefore installed a circular desk M45 on which was mounted a machine gun 12.7 Browning. In addition, three containers for 30 caliber machine guns. were adopted instead of simple rail circling the compartment, which wasn't really impractical in combat.

Between October 1943 and March 1944, 1643 M2A1 were produced, thus 1266 M2 base, which were converted.
