The Bell P - 39 Airacobra

Displays advocating the Bell P-39 hunter

This American model remains little-known. His original flight was scheduled in April 1939 at the base of Wright. Before the attack of Pearl Harbouralmost 600 aircraft had been built. He was commissioned to the Americans by the France in 1940 to strengthen aviation in modern devices, but the event subsequently made that it is exclusively the British army which used it. Its engine, placed below and behind the pilot's seat, gave him a quite different aspect, and this was a disadvantage for the pilot, who understood it scream behind his back during his flight. When production ended (in August 1944), Bell had build 9 584, whose 4 773 belonged to the Soviet union.
Nickname: "airacobra".
