It was in 1938 that the P-40 appeared, under the name of his prototype XP-40 (name). The basic designed from the P-36, this aircraft was the first American fighter produced in large numbers, and it equipped the US Army during the conflict. He distinguished himself in North Africa, in Russia and in the Pacific. Although robust, well armed and heavily armored, its failure was to be too heavy, which climbed to the rank of 2nd line aircraft. The USAAF pilots liked it yet for its looks, was, during the war, still improved.
